STELLAR ATHLETIC PERFORMANCES brought glory to San Beda University (SBU) as the Red Smashers conquered multiple categories during the tournament conducted by Badminton Laguna on April 23 at the Premiere South Point Badminton Court.
The Red Smashers showcased their exceptional skills and unwavering determination as they emerged triumphantly at the highly anticipated Laguna Badminton Tournament.
In an exclusive interview with Laurence Alejo, the Men’s Seniors Level A champion, he expressed the euphoria he felt upon winning the prestigious competition.
“The feeling was exhilarating, a lifelong experience that I will treasure for the rest of my life,” Alejo shared. He attributed his victory to the meticulous physical and mental preparation he underwent, enabling him to tackle the challenges posed by the game, ultimately leading to his outstanding performance at the tournament.
On the other hand, overcoming an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Arjay Lazareto, the double champion in the Men’s Seniors Level A and Men’s Seniors Level B categories, shared his unexpected yet joyful experience of clinching both titles.
“Actually di ko in-eexpect, kasi yung laban ko sa Mens Doubles Level B is super dikit. Like, one point lang yung lamang namin sa pagkapanalo. 35-35, so talagang blessing lang yung pagka panalo na yun, …and coming from an ACL injury. Talagang goal ko na makabalik sa competitive level of playing. So, masayang-masaya ako nung nanalo ako both Mens Doubles A and B,” Lazareto expressed.
Lazareto’s determination and discipline played a vital role in his triumph, emphasizing the significance of effective communication and teamwork in doubles matches, crediting his success to the strong bond he shares with his partner, Laurence Alejo.
Looking at the competition, both Alejo and Lazareto acknowledged the high caliber of athleticism amongst their fellow competitors at the Laguna Badminton Tournament.
Moving forward, the Red Smashers have their sights set on further tournaments and competitions, both within and beyond the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). While their focus remains on the NCAA games, they recognize the importance of participating in various tournaments to gain valuable experience and thrive under pressure.
The Red Smashers also extended their gratitude to the entire Bedan community for their unwavering support and urge their fellow teammates to maintain their unwavering spirit, as they represent the SBU with pride in the upcoming tournaments.
