IN CELEBRATION OF this year’s Teachers Day, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Student Council (SC) organized a program filled with games and music in gratitude for all members of the CAS faculty and teaching personnel at the Jonathan Sy Auditorium last October 3.
Vice President for Finance, Rev. Fr. Placido Ma. B. Acta, started off with a mass in order to give thanks and blessings before all the faculty and teaching personnel of the CAS community. The New York City-themed event proper then kicked off with opening remarks from Prof. Christian Bryan Bustamante, Ph.D., the Dean of CAS. In which, he talked about the relation of event’s theme with the different experiences and hardships of teaching, along with emphasizing the growing importance and need for teachers in the present time.
It was succeeded by a raffle for the faculty and teaching personnel. In terms of the prizes for the raffle, Kyla Cayetano, the SC Vice President for External Affairs, shared the difficulties that they faced in terms of selecting prizes and tokens for the celebration. She said that they “were really having a hard time since most of the professors in San Beda… meron na sila n’ung mga bagay na naiisip namin.” Nonetheless, the raffle highlighted a “spin-the-wheel” roulette, with appliances as prizes ranging from a blender, rice cooker, and a coffee maker.
In order to maintain the energy of participating instructors and students, the Bedan Music Guild (BMG) then serenaded the audience and involved the student body in participating in the sing-along which ultimately led to the first game of the event, “Everybody Sing.” A number of professors showcased their musical knowledge and singing abilities, who were selected by Prof. Marvin Reyes, Ph.D., the Prefect of Student Activities.
A dance number from the Bedan Dance Troupe (BDT) immediately pursued which was followed by a TikTok dance challenge from two professors selected by Dr. Reyes. The games continued as professors from the business and arts departments faced head-to-head in the game of “Family Feud.”
Afterwards, a selected number of professors on two opposing teams, from the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences Cluster against the Business and Accountancy Cluster, battled head-on with questions that have a theme relating to the overall student body of the CAS.
Following a performance from the San Beda University Chorale (SBUC), the raffle was finally selected and announced, unveiling Dean Bustamante as the lucky winner, which earned him a lunch for two worth Php7,600 at Spiral Buffet.
The celebration ended with a video presentation from the students of the CAS who thanked the professors and teaching staff, serving as a reminder for all their fruitful efforts and contributions. Looking behind the preparations for the celebration, Cayetano shared how there were only minimal issues being faced due to “everyone being hands-on, especially the logistics committee” who led the activities for this year.
