THE SAN BEDA University (SBU) Library celebrated the 33rd Library Information Services (LIS) Month and the 89th National Book Week by organizing a series of activities for all Bedan students to participate in last November 24 to 30.

In an interview with Ms. Jennifer Comabig, M.A.Ed.-L.S., R.L., the Head Librarian, she shared that these two events are celebrated while encouraging all school and academic libraries to observe these days following Proclamation 137 series of 1991 for the LIS Month and Proclamation 109 series of 1936 for the National Book Week.

There were three activities held throughout the said celebrations, namely: Lucky Library Patron of the Day, Library on Reels: Featuring My Day in the Library, and My Layb Story.

The first activity was supervised by Ms. Comabig along with her assistant, Ms. Rosalinda Robles, R.L. Meanwhile, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Librarian, Ms. Jenny Guinsod, M.L.I.S., R.L., looked after the second activity, whereas Ms. Carolina Gozun, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) for Graduate School Library handled the third activity.

For the Lucky Library Patron of the Day, the Head Librarian said that it was just a “simple activity” in order to encourage the SBU faculty and students to use the library, services and resources while also promoting them.

The next activity, Library on Reels, students were tasked to create promotional reels or videos tackling their experiences in using the library services. This was done in order to provide insight on how Bedans can use their programs, such as reservations for focus rooms, books being borrowed and the like. As for the My Layb Story, its objective was to figure out the impact of the library services to the students, and how it was able to help them in their academic life.

Throughout the celebration, even though Ms. Comabig admitted that there “were only few students that participated in the said activities, they were ‘nevertheless happy’” that some Bedans are still aware and even joined in their contests. Nonetheless, she concluded that it was still a success.
