FOLLOWING DECADES OF gathering Bedan car enthusiasts and industry insiders under one roof, the Bedan Business Spectrum (BBS) organized another edition of the University’s annual motor motion car show last January 27 at the University Plaza.
For its 29th edition, this year’s show was entitled “The REVolve: Revamped Auto Evolution,” which again was made part of the official festivities for the Pista of Sto. Niño sa San Beda 2024. It was held in collaboration with BBS’ official partner, Kalsado, and other major sponsors, namely, ALMNA CORP and Speedworks Engineering, alongside minor sponsors Ziebart, Kazham, Toyota, Queen V Fragrance, RMS Cars, and FlowerStore.ph.
A special acknowledgement was also extended to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Student Council (SC), the University of Sto. Tomas Auto Society (USTAS), Lasallian Auto, and the staggering turnout of participants that went above and beyond in showcasing local talent, businesses, and startups driving innovation in the industry.
A significant aspect of this year’s car show, however, was its philanthropic focus in aiding Public Utility Vehicles (PUV) drivers, who have been impacted by recent events and protests regarding PUV phaseouts.
The BBS President and Activity Chair, Anthony King Navarro, emphasized the event’s overarching cause which “breathed life into the event,” saying that they wanted to help the “PUV drivers na partners ng San Beda University,” raising awareness about the effects of the PUV phaseout on drivers.
Moreover, as one of the pioneering Laudato Si’-oriented institutions in the Philippines, through this event, the University demonstrated its “commitment to sustainability and community engagement” through the activity.
Leveraging SBU’s Community Engagement Center (CEC), BBS proactively reached out to their partner communities in order to foster “meaningful connections” and participation for the event.
The car show was not just a delight for car enthusiasts, but it also featured renowned Bedan alumni, Kathe Labayo and Jasper Jovellanos, who brought their flair as the hosts for the event. The attendees also enjoyed performances from SAPANTHA, Vasileia, the SBU Chorale, Bedan Dance Theatre (BDT), and the Bedan Musician’s Guild (BMG), adding an extra level of excitement and entertainment to the endeavor.
An expert panel, consisting of Ramon Tanchiatco, VTEC Rrenz, Marco Bautista, and Kenneth Bencito, judged the automobiles on display.
Under the motorcycles category, the Best of Show accolade was bagged by Decal Number 44 – Yamaha Xmax 300, while the SBU’s Choice Award was given to Decal Number 52 – Ducati Paul Smart 1000 LE.
Moreover, the coveted Best of Show title was seized by Decal Number 10’s sleek Mugen Civic FC. Decal Number 34’s striking Maroon Honda Civic ESi clinched the Laudato Si’ Award. Winning the hearts of the attendees, the People’s Choice honor went to Decal Number 51’s luxurious Maybach.
In an interview with participant Champion Iguid, he shared his perspective on his consistent involvement in the annual event. He said that winning was not his primary goal. Rather, it was about honoring a sworn oath to Sto Nino. “Sumasali kami rito bilang panata namin kay Sto. Nino,” underscoring the deeper meaning behind his participation.
In its 29th edition, BBS’ Motor Motion hopes it can continue to inspire the Bedan community to embrace the University’s dedication to responsible innovation and nurturing a brighter future for generations to come.
