CELEBRATIONS AND CHEERS filled San Beda University (SBU) as guest artists and various performing organizations from the Bedan community took the stage to conclude the #PaskongBedista2024 at the SBU Driveway on December 12.
The event, attended by students, faculty, and alumni, culminated the week-long institutional celebration of the Yuletide season, which commenced on December 2 with a commemorative Christmas lighting ceremony.
Performing organizations from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) such as the San Beda Chamber Chorale (SBCC) and the Bedan Musicians’ Guild (BMG) were joined by the Integrated Basic Education Department’s (IBED) Vasilea Dance Team, The Bedan Harmony, and the Bedan Musicians’ Club.
Moreover, organizations from different colleges, such as the Bedan Nightingales Chorale from the College of Nursing (CON), Medicisalto Dance Crew and Musika Medisina from the College of Medicine (COM), and San Beda Vox Legis from the College of Law (COL) also graced the stage with their performances.
Afterwards, the event’s highlight featured performances from special guest artists Jolianne, Shane G, and James Reid.
Jolianne showcased her latest single, “Plain Girl” and her second-highest streamed song entitled “Halfway There.”
Returning to SBU after her performance earlier this year, Shane G. opened her set with her single “Peligro” from 2023 and her latest release “KSPL.”
Leading the highlight of the event was #PaskongBedista2024 headline performer, James Reid. The prominent Filipino-Australian actor and singer delivered a setlist of songs from his latest EP, “jgh.” During the performance of his track, “u & i,” a lucky member of the Bedan community was invited onto the stage by James Reid himself.
After serenading the crowd with songs from his latest EP and his hit song “Randomantic,” his last act marked the conclusion of Paskong Bedista 2024.
In an exclusive interview with The Bedan, James Reid expressed his enjoyment in performing in front of the Bedan crowd.
“I had so much fun. The energy was great tonight, and you know it was so cool to see everyone singing with me,” he said. He also shared the highlight of his night, a Bedan named “Michael” who came up to the stage and danced to his songs.
Shane G., on the other hand, could not hold back her excitement after returning to San Beda once again after her last performance in January of 2023.
“I started and ended my year here dito sa San Beda and I’m very much grateful and happy that I get to perform again,” she said, wishing the community a “Merry Christmas.”
Following these performances, the Christmas break began along with the institutional Christmas Party, which took place on December 17 and 19, respectively.
