WITH THE MANTRA “no other way but forward,” The Intermediary, the official publication of the Department of Financial Management and the Junior Financial Management Association (JFINMA), released its sixth volume for this academic year entitled, “Moving Forward,” a back-to-school special issue last October 1.
“Our objective is to disseminate financial and campus news intended for the Financial Management students, but of course, we also want to educate those who are outside our department when it comes to financial literacy,” shared Athena Mendoza, the Editor-in-Chief of The Intermediary.
According to her, the title “Moving Forward” symbolizes the different opportunities being offered at the beginning of an academic year, for students to do things in a new way and discover their new potential. “In this issue, [we] want to encourage them to keep moving forward, to step out of their comfort zone, and to not be afraid to fail, moving forward will help us find another way to achieve what we desire,” the Editor-in-Chief also added.
She also acknowledged, in her Editor’s Letter, the need for improvement and former lapses the publication has encountered. She further ascertained that “consistency and a quality-education publication” are the main issues that thee new set of editorial board and staff shall make progress on, with the promise of featuring the students, alumni, and professors, in their department, more often.
“The Intermediary became inactive as the plans made by the former editorial team weren’t pushed through, thus our goal this year is to be more active again and be consistent in terms of publishing content,” Mendoza further commented.
To make their plans happen, the challenge of finding writers and layout editors were faced by the publication. Mendoza expressed the guidance of their Executive Director, Gerome Salapong, as a huge help to face this problem. The Executive Director became an encouragement for Financial Management students to join the publication.
This year’s issue tackled subjects like JFINMA’s new set of Executive Board, the activities JFINMA has in store for the department’s students, up to national financial news which also presents JFINMA’s perspective and plans for the following months, as well as this semester. “I consider our first published content big progress already. I am very grateful that I’m with my editorial team who makes the work easy, and I feel at ease knowing that I can rely on them in terms of their responsibilities and deadlines,” Mendoza conveyed.
With the vision of activeness in mind, The Intermediary is now set on making more issues for the Department of Financial Management, and every Bedan student is encouraged to check out JFINMA’s official publication, as they look on to a year full of growth, challenges, and memories.
