BONJOUR, JE M’APPELLE, Anne! We all notice the change of air within the last two months of 2023. Does this really affirm the popular opinion that Ber months is the breakup season? Or does this only suggest that we should take a “brake” from the challenging year before the holidays?
It is indeed a year for everyone considering that 2023 was the year where everything slowly transitioned to a far more “new normal” as we might say.
“…their story is not a reflection of one’s own book.”
The year had its triumphs and obstacles for everyone’s story. And needless to say, November was the month when social media erupted because of everyone’s own opinions of the recent Philippine celebrity breakups. So, mon ami, do you also agree with this notion? That forever ceases to exist nowadays? This is primarily because people see these couples as a mere example of what love should be and how love should be perceived.
I must say that they caused quite the mental gymnastics on one’s mind, considering how they are always seen in cameras and in social media. But the reality somehow slipped into the minds of everyone—that their story is not a reflection of one’s own book. Because for sure, they have their own personal reasons on why their long and worthwhile stories have come to an end.
Contrary to the focus of November’s events up until December, we could say that as I see and hear some stories from personal acquaintances, regardless of if it’s about their love story or not, the last two months of 2023 were extra tough for them. It was like it is where realization knocked the sense out of them about their current situations, decisions, and aspirations on how to end the year. I saw how things casually transpired to new beginnings in a snap for others and how others reconciled for the better, and how others silently fight for the battles they do not wish for other people to figure out and see. Others chose to break the cycle and others chose to drag the brake of their life’s courses.
What does it really mean if you chose “to brake” instead of “to break”? Brake is understood as a part of the vehicle that one uses to either slow down or to stop. It means it gives you the option. Just like in making life choices. Choosing to “brake” means you’re slowly thinking about it, weighing your options and how it will affect your present and future. Like if you just want to take a short pause before choosing to go on. On the other hand, choosing “to break” means your certain already. Especially, if one is pertaining to any kind of connection with people.
Nonetheless, both words are a tough choice to make for anyone in any kind of situation. A decision will always be made but it doesn’t mean that it was made in an easy way. Therefore, each of you who was once or put into this situation for the nth time already, well, this writer bows down to your bravery.
2023 has come to an end, may you all find yourselves in a better situation this time around. Cheers to you for making it through the year, whether you had to “break or brake”. You fought well and you loved well this year, mon ami, I’m so sure of that. Au revoir!
