DERIVING “KEY INSIGHTS” from select Political Science students, The Repvblic (TR) launched the two-episode installment of its newest podcast entitled, “The PoliTalks: A Political Science Podcast,” last February 12 at the Collaboration Room of the San Beda University (SBU) Library.

With the goal of also “empowering the San Beda University (SBU) community,” the two podcast episodes tackled “pressing contemporary issues” of the country from the lens of students hailing from different levels of the Department of Political Science.

Sandra Audencial, the activity chairperson, said that she envisioned the event as an “avenue for greater youth participation” amidst the issues plaguing the country. “It’s high time that we use our voice and speak for ourselves – as a Bedan that strives to fulfill our values and adhere to them,” she added.

Hosts Rinoa Sanchez and Walter Eje, alongside student speakers Tyrese Puchero, John Lloyd Dris, and Ian Zaldua, took charge during the first episode of the series, discussing the pros and cons of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

While engaging in a new project, activity co-chairperson Jun Escauriaga shared some of his troubles in terms of the overall preparation of the event, citing how such endeavor was “stress-inducing and yet enjoyable” at the same time.

“Preparing into this podcast makes me realize the hardships of people conducting activities to educate, and [sic] aims to help people to realize, especially that this podcast talks about the issues in our political world,” Escauriaga added.

Then, the second and final episode, hosted by Luiz Kyle Pagnamitan and Irish Macanang, highlighted the lasting impact of the EDSA People Power Revolution in anticipation of the event’s 38th Anniversary for an episode aired last February 23.

The topic surrounding PoliTalk’s final installment was expounded by select students, Kloie Lim, Mikaela Quicho, and John Francis Gangcuangco, exploring the implications of the EDSA Revolution as well as its relevance in modern times.

Finally, activity co-chairperson, Andrea Bugarin, ultimately shared how the primal goal of the podcast was to “illuminate minds, fostering not just knowledge but also a culture of open discourse.”
