IN THIS YEAR’S Dom Mark Salvaña Cup, the San Beda College-Alabang (SBC-A) is an inch away from the championship against Abbey/Admin after drawing first blood in the best-of-three series at the MVP Gym last June 25.

The Dom Mark Salvaña Cup is an annual tradition of San Beda University (SBU) held every Pista ng Sto. Niño, which gathers its constituents from the different branches of SBU to carry on the sportsmanship and camaraderie of the Bedan community across departments and offices.

This competition is composed of nine teams, namely; the Abbey/Admin, IBED Manila, IBED Rizal, Shop/Gus, BMS, SBC Alabang, Coaches, Office Selection, and the Security Office.

In the games preceding the finals, Abbey/Admin successfully dethroned last year’s Dom Mark Salvaña Cup champion, IBED-Rizal, with a score of 74-62 in a do-or-die game of the final four series. Meanwhile, SBC-A punched their ticket to the finals after ousting Shop/Gus, 95-91. The playoffs were constantly postponed for reasons such as the time availability of all teams and access to the gym, where most of the games take place.

In game one of the finals, SBC-A got the victory against Abbey/Admin, 103-99, inching one game away from the championship. As such, SBC-A rallied behind a breakout performance of Angelo Lance Ingco, who chipped in 46 markers, 11 boards, and eight steals, to gain the advantage over their Abbey/Admin counterpart.

The Dom Mark Salvaña Cup has not yet continued the second game of its final’s showdown. Details will be updated once a definite schedule for the series has been released.
