AFTER PRESENTING AN initiative raising one billion pesos towards scholars, Katutubong Puno, and the Professorial Chair, the San Beda College Alumni Foundation (SBCAF) Scholars, Officers, and Trustees convened at Greenhills, San Juan, last September 30 to detail their agendas for the upcoming months.

Among the scholars in the meeting were the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Student Council (SC) President, Mari Ernestine Okol, Vice President for Internal Affairs, Amir Jordan Hussin, and Secretary-General, Lourenella De Leon along with Edriane Timothy Tabor, a senior from the Department of Legal Management (DLM).

The proposal initially began as a “500-million-peso initiative,” Patricia Rivera, a first-year College of Law (COL) student and SBCAF Scholars’ appointed President, shared with The Bedan. However, after an evaluation of proposals, the Board’s Treasurer, Mr. Edgardo Favila, “suggested and recommended” a 1-billion-peso goal instead.

‘Yung primary objectives namin is not just for the scholars,” Rivera explained. According to her, the Proposal was directed towards aiding “Scholarships, Katutubong Puno, and the Professorial Chair”–SBCAF’s main programs.

Other than that, the SBCAF Scholars aim to extend this project to 100 scholars from all the institution’s colleges. Moreover, it also considered the “annual tuition fee hikes that Bedan students experience.”

To achieve this, four of their teams must work together to “sustain” the project. The Fund Development Team, chaired and presented by Tabor during the meeting, ran the Board through the “Gameplan” towards the “1 billion by 2027 Proposal.”

From the month of October until January 2025, the scholars will be “preparing, making initial contacts and following up on their donors.” On the months of February until October 2025 will be the second wave of preparations where Scholars will “re-engage with their donors for updates.”

The Administrative Communications Team, chaired by De Leon, planned for a Duty Attendance Check. Here, the Board can track “scholars’ attendance and performance” in carrying tasks through organized “Get Togethers.”

Next, the Multimedia Team, headed by Angela Mae Ronquillo, a junior College of Nursing (CON) student, will serve as the Public Relations (PR) managers.

Maurice Lapira, a senior from the Department of Marketing Management (DMM), presented how the team will handle the Foundation’s Facebook page and official website to “help the SBCAF to be able to connect with different or potentials, donors or potential philanthropists that can help us achieve the goal to gain 1 billion pesos in 2027.”

Lastly, the Programs Team, headed by Jhuster Kai Dayandante, a senior from the Department of Legal Management, presented to the Board their plan of furthering the SBCAF’s “online presence” and “engagements” in SBCAF’s Facebook page and official website, engaging with companies in sponsoring the Professorial Chair’s academic excellence and further aiding projects spearheaded by “Katutubong Puno.”

Upon the Scholars’ initial stages presentation of the proposal, a million-peso head start was given by the Board towards the Foundation. However, for confidentiality reasons, the real amount deposited was not disclosed.
