THE SAN BEDA Red Lions cruised past the San Sebastian College – Recoletos (SSC-R) Golden Stags, 62–50, to continue their dominant run and extend their winning streak to four in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 101 seniors’ basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre last October 26.
Agjanti Miller led the way for the Red Lions, scoring a new career high of 24 points, marking his spot at the top of the NCAA scoring leaders in his third-straight outing with at least 20 points.
The Red Lions opened the game with intensity, quickly seizing control in the first quarter and building a commanding sixteen – point lead. Miller spearheaded the early surge, showcasing his offensive power.
Jomel Puno assisted in the offense with precision, making timely passes that set up Miller for open shots, which stretched San Sebastian’s defense. Their duo allowed the Red Lions to dictate the pace and establish early dominance throughout the court.
Riding the wave of the first quarter, Puno secured key rebounds that helped extend San Beda’s lead. Miller, who continued to anchor the Red Lions’ offense, stayed aggressive and kept the Golden Stags’ defense on edge with his shot-making. Their efforts allowed San Beda to build a commanding 20-point lead, dictating the game’s tempo and preventing San Sebastian from gaining any significant momentum in the second quarter.
The Red Lions kept the pressure on both sides of the floor in the third quarter. As much as the Golden Stags tried to close up, San Beda’s dominant defensive presence and momentum – changing shots by Puno and Nygel Gonzales allowed them to push their lead to double digits, ending the quarter up, 49–38.
In the fourth quarter, the Red Lions continued their dominance. San Beda dictated the pace and swatted aside a late rally from the Golden Stags.
The Mendiola-based squad sealed the victory, 62–50, to secure another statement win in NCAA Season 101.
The Red Lions aim to sustain their momentum and continue gaining ground as they face Group A leader University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Altas at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, at the same venue.
