MARCHING WITH HONOR, the 292 graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), along with the 251 graduates from the College of Accountancy and Business (CAB), brought their collegiate journey to a close at the San Beda University (SBU) Institutional Commencement Exercises at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) last July 30.
Prior to the separation, the then-integrated colleges held its 123rd Commencement Exercises at the SMX Convention Center last year before returning to the PICC following its renovations. The ceremony marks the first commencement exercises to include the newly inaugurated CAB.
Opening the day-long celebration, Cardinal Orlando Beltran Quevedo, O.M.I., D.D., officiated the Baccalaureate Mass, where he reflected in his homily on the importance of “moral discernment and peacemaking” for the Class of 2026.
The commencement exercises began as SBU conferred the Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa, upon Cardinal Quevedo, led by Rector-President Rev. Fr. Aloysius Ma. A. Maranan, OSB, in acknowledgement of his lifelong commitment to ethical leadership, peacebuilding, and his enduring influence on society and interfaith relations in Mindanao.
Further solidifying his advocacy, Cardinal Quevedo stated in his address that “Peace agreements may be signed. Handshakes may be done. But lasting peace does not necessarily result. A just and lasting peace comes about when peace is from the heart,” pertaining to the ever-growing need for societal peace.
The newly appointed Dean of CAS, Dr. Moses Aaron Angeles, Ph.D., officially presented the college’s 292 graduating students. In the first commencement exercises of CAB, Dean Dr. Jackqui D. Moreno, DBA, CPA, presented the college’s 251 graduating students.
Among the 292 graduates of CAS, the college molded 71 students who were awarded academic distinctions. CAB bestowed academic distinctions on 37 of its 251 graduating seniors.
CAS awarded five students with the Latin Honors: Jennie Loraine G. Reyes, Bachelor of Arts (AB) in Political Science as the sole summa cum laude; Mitziko Clare V. Yema and Xylee Jannelle O. Gatus also from the Department of Political Science, and Jules Aldwin R. Macapagal, Bachelor of Science (BS) in Human Biology as magna cum laude; and Sean Carlos Y. Shapoory from the Department of Political Science as well as cum laude. CAB recognized graduating senior from the Legal Management Department, Dwyneth Louise M. Deldig, as its sole Latin honors recipient, graduating as cum laude.
Following this, Bernice Gutierrez, an Accounting Management graduate and Loyalty Awardee, led the Pledge of Loyalty.
Atty. Dominador Dungca Buhain, president of the San Beda Alumni Association (SBAA), then formally inducted the graduates into the Alumni Association, as the Class of 2026 sang the Bedan Hymn, marking the end of their collegiate journey.
