SAN BEDA UNIVERSITY (SBU) obtained a 38.24% overall passing rate in the October 2023 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination (CPALE), according to the results announced by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last October 6.
The PRC conducted the CPALE in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Calapan, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, Zamboanga, and Palawan, last September 30 and October 1 and 2. As announced by PRC, 2,740 out of 8,734, or 31.37%, passed the exams.
SBU had a total of nine first-timers and three passers amounting to 33.33%. In addition to that, there were ten repeat takers out of the 25, or 40.00%, who passed the said examination. The overall performance of the University as per the record released by the PRC is 38.24%.
According to Prof. Jayson Chio, the Head of the Accountancy Board Operations (AKTIBO), he and the rest of the faculty, especially Dr. Jackqui R. Moreno, the Vice Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences’ Business cluster and the concurrent Chairperson of the Department of Accountancy and Taxation, are really proud of the 13 Bedan alumni who “hurdled all obstacles brought about by the events of the past three years.”
He also said that passing the CPALE is “a testament” not only to their competence and perseverance but also to the dedication, knowledge, and wisdom imparted by all the professors.
“For starters, getting an overall passing percentage above the national passing percentage is the minimum aspiration of any University or college that offers BS Accountancy. We aspire to perform better if not have a perfect passing percentage. But this feat entails a collective effort of both students, faculty, and administration,” Prof. Chio added.
Moving forward, in regard to the preparation process of each CPALE taker, Prof. Chio advised that they should be “wary of themselves,” by which, from the very first day of their undergraduate studies, they must “have the proper mindset from day one in the undergrad. As early as their freshman year, they should already have the end goal in mind, which is to obtain the CPA license.”
The AKTIBO chair added the goal of the department through its board ops is to inspire their CPALE candidates to “outdo the previous batch” by encouraging them to maximize the resources that AKTIBO has prepared for them that consists of “Quizzers, lecture notes, and video lectures done by invited speakers from various review centers and professionals” all stored in a Canvas account.
Echoing in the words of Dr. Moreno who would often exclaim, “Sa ating departamento, walang iwanan, sama-sama tayo,” Prof. Chio implored the Bedan CPALE candidates “to PLEASE USE THE PLATFORM while these are available. Wala ng hiya hiya. Sino pa magtutulungan kundi tayong magkakapatid na Bedista?”
