SAN BEDA UNIVERSITY (SBU) recognized its scholars and honored academic excellence in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Nursing (CoN), College of Medicine (COM), and the College of Law (COL) during the third Academic Scholars Convocation, held last November 10 via Zoom.
The virtual event commenced with an uplifting message from Rev. Fr. Aloysius Ma. A. Maranan, the University Rector-President, emphasizing the pivotal role of dedicated scholars in upholding the university’s core values and contributing to its mission and vision.
One of the highlights of the assembly was the awarding of the Venerable Bede Gold Medalists and the St. Anselm of Canterbury Silver Medalists who will get 100% tuition fee discount and 50% tuition fee discount, respectively. The Venerable Bede Gold Medalist Awardees include Dianne Sheng of BS Economics and Public Policy, Sean Audric Uy of AB Political Science, and Jules Aldwin Macapagal of BS Human Biology, while the St. Anselm of Canterbury Silver Medalist Awardees include Ethel Mae Glodoviza of AB Political Science, Liandrei Alabata of BS Entrepreneurship, and Alyanna Pantaleon of BS Legal Management.
Kyrelle Dianne Tolete, one of the University’s scholars, expressed how being a scholar of San Beda doesn’t stop at being a mere scholar. Rather, she points out that the “real battlefield goes beyond the mere walls of the University.”
Tolete also highlighted the role of the Bedan Scholars’ Guild (BSG), along with the university’s scholars, in lending a hand to their fellow Bedans during the midterm and final examinations. As well as engaging with the community and connecting students with SBU’s partner institutions.
Zhamira Padol, the BSG President and a fourth-year political science student pointed out how being a Bedan scholar is a “catalyst for positive change,” specifically as to how it cultivates an environment for academic excellence and positive change. Furthermore, she also expressed how being a Bedan Scholar helped propel her into achieving her aspirations.
Moreover, key speakers Dr. Noel D. Atienza, the COM Dean and Atty. Jun Marr Denila, a COL alumnus scholar, also expressed their thoughts and imparted their messages to San Beda’s academic community, with Dr. Atienza giving emphasis to the “transformative power of education” and Atty. Denila encouraging Bedan scholars to “embrace hardships and failures as part of the learning process,” in addition to sharing his journey and experiences as a Bedan Scholar.
Closing the event was Dr. Divina Edralin, the University Vice President for Academics, who imparted her remarks to the university’s academic community.
