LOOKING TO BUILD on their back-to-back Taekwondo Overall Championships in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the San Beda Red Jins participated in the Smart/MVP Sports Foundation Best of the Best Taekwondo Championships, held at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila last September 6-7.
The tournament held competitions in the Kyrogui event and Poomsae. Kyrogui was categorized into Senior, Junior, Cadet, and Grade School categories for both Men’s and Women’s divisions.
The two-day-long event included 2500 taekwondo practitioners from the NCAA and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), along with recognized taekwondo organizations, the Philippine National Police, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The Red Jins finished the competition with 14 medals in total for both divisions in the Seniors category. In the Women’s senior category, Danica Alingog, Ria Anne Calasara, and Gwin Gutierrez each secured gold medals. Gabe Salomon won the sole silver medal for the Red Jins in the Women’s senior category. The Red Jins’ medal tally concluded with four bronze medals won by Florianne Limbo, Bleesey Barlita, Michaelah Vale, and Myles Quilaton.
In the Men’s senior category, the Red Jins secured three gold medals won by Tom Kevin Castillo, Tor Timothy Castillo, and Danielle Rosquilo. Joshua Emmanuel Deita and Jacob Ligamzon secured silver medals, while Taj Kagy Satairapan won bronze.
The Red Jins also captured nine medals in the Junior’s category, hauling four gold medals, one silver medal, and four bronze medals.
The Red Jins are set to continue their preparation for NCAA Season 101’s Taekwondo Tournament by competing in various tournaments throughout the year, along with a continued training program proven to produce championships.
