SAN BEDA RED Lions sensation Janti Miller announced his decision to part ways with the University after his rookie season, ending his stint in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) following their 24th basketball title on Saturday, January 17.

The Season 101 Mythical Five member made the announcement through a social media post, confirming his intention to transfer and to no longer compete in the NCAA as he “seeks to continue his collegiate basketball career elsewhere.”

After arriving in San Beda as a young Filipino-American prospect from the United States, Miller quickly established himself as one of the league’s premier scorers. He played a crucial role in the Red Lions’ Season 101 championship run, emerging as an MVP candidate while averaging 20.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1 assist per game.

In his post, Miller reflected on his journey with San Beda, expressing gratitude to the institution for embracing him both on and off the court.

“You guys took a chance on me and embraced me as one of your own,” Miller wrote, adding that the program helped him better understand his Filipino roots. “I’m glad I was able to bring you guys and the community a championship and leave a winner.”

Miller cited recent developments regarding the timeline of San Beda’s possible move to the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) as a major factor behind his decision to transfer.

“Unfortunately, with recent understanding of the timing of San Beda joining the UAAP, I have decided to transfer,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else, but I refuse to play in the NCAA league.”

Multiple reports have linked Miller to several UAAP programs. The 23-year-old guard has two remaining years of collegiate eligibility, though the UAAP’s age limit of 25 could restrict his tenure to just two seasons.

Despite his departure, Miller reaffirmed his support for the Red Lions, emphasizing the bond he formed with the San Beda community.

“Once a Bedan, always a Bedan,” he wrote. “I will forever support you guys and root for you guys whether I’m playing for you guys or not.”

With Miller’s exit, San Beda will look to recalibrate as it prepares to defend its NCAA crown, moving forward without one of the pillars of its Season 101 championship roster.
